STATUE ON THE BANKS OF THE SAONE

Statue banks Soane Lyon

Strolling along the river bank in Lyon presents you with lots of options.  Which river?  Rhone or Saone.  Which bank? Thankfully there are lots of bridges enabling you to switch sides of your chosen river at will.  Both rivers are dotted with fine examples of modern sculpture.  I was particularly taken with this of one man carrying another.  It is curiously moving, as you look more closely you realise that the two figures are the same man, or identical twins.  The statue is the work of a Scandinavian duo called Elmgreen and Dragset.

To see what else we got up to in Lyon check out my Street Art in Lyon and Confluence Museum posts.

It would make me very happy if you were to nominate me for one of these awards:

We always fly through Lyon on the motorway heading south. It looks such an amazing city, one day I’m actually going to stop there!

Oh, a great image. I went to Lyon many many years ago and it has changed a lot since then. I really must get back some time soon.

At first glance I thought it was a man rescuing a woman but a man carrying himself….that’s very thought provoking!

Hi Catherine, it is an interesting statue, I wonder if there is a story behind the creation?
