Cultured Kids #28

Where did the summer go?  It only seems like yesterday that the endless days stretched out in front of us and now all the labels are sewn into the new school uniforms and the teens are back to school.  Time for Cultured Kids #28 to return.  My offering this week is a guide to Christmas Shows in London this year, just to make sure that the summer is over!

We headed off to Berlin and then down into the former East Germany where we sweltered in the hottest temperatures that Germany has ever experienced.  Whilst we were on our travels we added to my collection of Cultural Ducks.  First of all we spied Frederick the Great in duck form.

At the magnificent Anna Amalia Library in Weimar we found this literary duck.

Reading duck

Not strictly a duck, in fact, not a duck at all but a Playmobil figure.  Not just any Playmobil figure but the worlds best selling Playmobil figure.  And it is ….. drumroll ….. Luther!

Have you seen any cultural ducks on your travels?  Just in case you are curious here are a selection of the Dutch Cultural Ducks we found last year.

More importantly have you got any posts of a cultural nature that you would like to link up to Cultured Kids.  Museums, galleries, shows, country houses …. my co-host Scarlett at The Diary of a Londoness and I would love to read them all.  Our favourite posts from last time were:

Damien Hirst at Houghton Hall by Mum’s Gone To ….

New York with Teens from Map and Family

Lacock Abbey from Family Travel Experience.

I don’t know that I’ve seen a cultural duck. But I have seen a giant duck floating in Sydney Harbour once.

I think the only “cultural” ducks my family has found lately is the Minecraft and Superhero ducks found in the game machine at Dave in Busters (a US based gaming institution)—-does that qualify as American Pop Culture? Perhaps that is culture used in a loose sense! Thanks for sharing. #CulturedKids

Thanks very much for mentioning New York with Teens – that is such a compliment! Yes, we do have some cultural ducks, including a Statue of Liberty duck and a Magna Carta duck. There would be more but inexplicably some destinations don’t recognise the need for them….
